Individual learning plans are created for each student and focus on the students’ interests, learning styles, academic strengths, and areas of need. If your child has struggled in school in the past, they will love our unique, hands-on learning that is centered around them and their interests.
We understand this can be a difficult age and that many students lose interest in school during this time. Our team works deliberately to keep our 6th-8th graders engaged and encouraged. We provide opportunities for students to combine their interests with their everyday learning. We focus on their emotional well being and help them navigate their pre-teen emotions.
Our students are on average, one grade level ahead of students who attended a public school.
During your child's 6th-8th grade year, they will learn and master these skills:
Reading Comprehension & Writing:
Novel studies, literary analysis, short stories, poetry, screenplays, thesis statements, research papers, precision in writing, grammar, focus on high school preparedness
Mathematics:
Problem-solving, proportional thinking with algebraic concepts embedded throughout the program, Advanced Math & Algebra class offered (Saxon Math Series)
Science & Biology:
Cells, human organ systems, ecology, plant life, matter, energy, force and motion, participation in the Greater Kansas City Science Fair at Union Station, hands-on learning labs and dissections
Social Studies & Geography:
American Revolution, Manifest Destiny, Civil War, Reconstruction, the Great Depression, World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam, U.S. Constitution
Technology:
Design & Modeling, Medical Detectives, multi-media design, robotics, coding (Twice Weekly STEM Classes)
Arts & Music:
