Directions for Pick-Up
 

• Students are asked to stay home.  Parents will remove all personal items from lockers/desks/coat racks at this time so that everything can go home to be cleaned. Teachers will send home only the textbooks and class work that is needed at this time, so not all textbooks will be going home.  Some students' supplies will be labeled outside of the student classroom and ready for pick up.  
  
• If your child does not have access to a laptop or tablet and home and NEEDS one, please email me at: [email protected] prior to Sunday and I will have one available for you to check out.  This should only be on a NEED basis and only for students in grades 3-8.
  
• If families cannot make this pick up time, you are asked to email me at [email protected]  to set up an alternative pick up time.
  
• Each family is asked to bring a recycle/paper bag (or other type of bag) to place student items in during pick-up time.  For families with more than one student, the parent is asked to bring multiple bags.  
  
• 2020-2021 Registration (yes -  I know it’s a horrible time to talk about this) can be dropped off at this time as well.  You will still receive the Early Bird Discount if you pay in full at this time.  
  

    


The following methods of communication will begin Sunday night (March 22) at 5:00pm.

•  A newsletter will be sent out to all families.  The newsletter will provide links to information from individual classroom teachers.  This newsletter will also give you links to free online learning opportunities that you can use to provide enrichment to your student if needed.
  
• A Google Form link will be provided to you on Friday, March 27. This form will ask you for feedback on the at home learning plan.  The information gathered will guide us in our planning for the following week.  
  

I do ask that during this home-bound learning time, when stresses are high and frustrations are bound to happen, you refrain from negative talk about any teachers, class work (or school in general) in person or on social media sites.  I can assure you, our teachers are working hard (over their Spring Break) to prepare for this, but teaching in a classroom and teaching “online” are two completely different things. Our teachers are comfortable creating hands-on, engaging lessons in the classroom, and are now trying to figure out how to create those virtually.  They are also keeping in mind that parents who are at home will most likely be working and unable to sit at the table helping children with work. Therefore, they are trying to balance keeping students learning and moving forward, without overloading parents and creating any more stress than they already have.  

If your child is struggling with something, the teacher will give you ways you can reach out to him/her throughout the day.  You can also reach out to me any time at [email protected] and I will do what I can to help.  We are all in this together and will do what we can to make this work.  We ask that you remain positive, understanding, and join us in our efforts to keep students’ minds active by practicing the skills they are used to doing every day in the classroom. 

Remember, our children are watching us during this stressful time.  They are learning how to respond to challenges by observing how the adults in their lives respond.  Let’s teach them to respond with a level head, reason, and compassion for those less fortunate. In the end, if your family is safe and healthy, that’s all that really matters.

Today is the day!  Our students are invited to dress up as their favorite book character as we kick off Read Across America Week and our Scholastic Book Fair!  We are especially excited to have parents, and one special surprise visitor, come read to our classes today, too.  Be watching for a video look inside this special day!
